Trio Kazanchis+2: concert Ethiopian Traditional Impro Punk

“A drunk silver fish” ... “infusion, like good food” ... “a crazy monkey crossing the road without any traffic lights” ... “a touch of madness involved”.

These are just some of the ways the music and approach of Trio Kazanchis+2 has been described, founded in 2008 when bandleader Jeroen Visser (Switzerland) found himself jamming with Mesele Asmamaw (Ethiopia) and Fabien Duscombs (France) in various venues in the Ethiopian music Mecca: Kazanchis.

This show is therefore to celebrate the band’s 10 years anniversary but also to launch their 3rd album called “Sheger”, a hymn to Addis Ababa.

Sonically one travels to Holland’s 80s free-impro and punk scene via Jeroen, hears diverse French jazz-rock-fusion via Fabien, touches the bass wonders of Cyril and discovers innovation and lyricism in Ethiopian traditional instruments via Mesele and Endris. African reviews mentioned them as African jazz’s answer to The Who.

With improvisation at the core, their live show will have you dancing and grooving hypnotically. A must see for anyone who loves to travel through many worlds in one moment.

Mesele Asmamaw (krar, vocals), Jeroen Visser (vocals, saxes, far sa-organ/synth), Endris Hassen (vocals, masinqo), Cyril Moulas (bass), Fabien Duscombs (vocals, drums).
