Mezgebu Tessema was born in 1960 at Enewary Town, Northern Showa Administrative Region of Ethiopia. Following his graduation from the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design of Addis Ababa University, Mezgebu served as art instructor in the same school for a year. In 1981, he won a scholarship for further studies at the Ilya Efimovitch Repin Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture & Architecture, Russia where he earned his Master in Fine Arts degree. Mezgebu returned to Ethiopia and became an art instructor in Painting and Drawing at the Alle School of Fine Arts and Design of Addis Ababa University since 1990 to the present. He is also one of the founders of the Dimension Group. Mezgebu featured his works in numerous exhibitions in Ethiopia and abroad as well as conducted researches; Mezgebu remains to be a vigorous figure in Ethiopia’s contemporary art in realistic painting.
