Artist Biography
Meron is an artist from Debre Markos, Ethiopia. She started making art in 2007. Her father inspired her by taking pictures and collecting art from different African countries. This made Meron want to paint those images on canvas.
Her travels have influenced her style, which uses strong dark colors to show the strength of Black women. This influence to become Tikur Set means “Black women” in Amharic. For Meron, being a Tikur Set is more than just part of her culture—it’s become a symbol of strength, empowerment, and resilience. She started seeing herself and her art as a reflection of the struggles and successes of Black women all over Africa. Her art tells their stories, celebrating their experiences, challenges, and achievements.
Since beginning her art journey, Meron has participated in different exhibitions, including both solo and group shows. During showcase her work, audiences reect on how she expresses women’s voices. As a mother of two, she also teaches children on their journeys in the visual arts. Meron expresses the gift of being a woman through her journey, inspiring others.
